Intellectual Property Office of Ireland publishes 2025 Annual Report
Controller of Intellectual Property, Mr James Kelly, has today launched the 2025 Annual Report for the Intellectual Property Office of Ireland. Mr Kelly acknowledged the support provided to the Office by the Department of Enterprise, Tourism and Employment, which is critical to the effective delivery of the IPOI's statutory functions. He also thanked all IPOI staff for their continued hard work, dedication and professionalism throughout 2025.
Highlights of the 2025 Annual Report include:
- The IPOI continued to deliver high levels of customer service, with the majority of customer service targets being achieved across patents, trade marks, designs and copyright services.
- A total of 591 national patent applications were received in 2025, while 3,328 national trade mark applications were filed, representing a 42% increase on 2024.
- The Information Centre dealt with over 4,000 email enquiries and approximately 3,500 telephone queries during the year.
- The Office attended a record number of awareness-raising events in 2025, including the BT Young Scientist & Technology Exhibition, Student Enterprise Programme Awards, National Ploughing Championships, and delivered intellectual property presentations to 59 secondary schools nationwide.
- The IPOI website received 246,687 visits during 2025, while the Office continued to expand its digital presence, increasing LinkedIn followers by 40.5%.
- During 2025, the Office strengthened international cooperation through ongoing engagement with the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO), the European Patent Office (EPO) and the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO).
