New Patent & SPC e-filing system is now available
The Intellectual Property Office of Ireland is pleased to announce the launch of our new Patent & Supplementary Protection Certificate (SPC) e-filing facility. This new development became available on 1 August 2019 to facilitate the filing of all Patent & SPC applications on-line via the Intellectual Property Office of Ireland website home page. It will also be possible to file an online application for an Extension of the Duration of an SPC.
The new e-filing system introduces an easy to navigate online application form and makes provision for the uploading of all patent specification documentation. The e-filing functionality also facilitates the electronic payment of patent & SPC filing and application fees by credit or debit card. Automatic error checking helps ensure that users input the correct data and a fee counter provides information on the cost of the application. The submission process is straightforward and results in an online confirmation receipt that includes a provisional application number which can be printed or saved.
In addition, the Office has developed a stand-alone online tool to assist applicants with their patent documents called the Patent Specification Template Tool. This tool is a template which assists applicants in correctly constructing the documents that form part of the patent specification.
The introduction of the Patent and SPC e-filing means that the Intellectual Property Office of Ireland can now accept online applications for all IP Rights applications including trade marks and designs.
