Intellectual Property Office of Ireland publishes 2023 Annual Report

Controller of Intellectual Property, Mr James Kelly has today launched the 2023 Annual Report for the Intellectual Property Office of Ireland.   Mr Kelly acknowledged the support provided to the Office by the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment, which is critical to the delivery of the statutory functions of the IPOI. He also thanked all the dedicated IPOI staff for their work in 2023, who have continued to step up and regularly go beyond to deliver for customers and IP applicants.

Highlights of the 2023 Annual Report include:

  • The majority of the IPOI’s customer service targets were met to a satisfactory level with 84% being the average rate of achievement.
  • A total of 589 national patent applications were received in 2023 which represents an increase of 186% over the 2022 figure.
  • The Office attained ISO9001:2015 certification in quality management systems underscoring its commitment to delivering continuous process improvement.
  • The Information Centre dealt with over 4,000 emails and approximately 4,200 telephone queries.
  • The Office participated in a number of national seminars, exhibitions and events including the ‘Building Better Business’ events in conjunction with the Department as well as a range of events in conjunction with the Local Enterprise Offices. The IP in Education programme was successfully rolled out nationwide to secondary schools in 2023 in conjunction with the Student Enterprise Programme.
